SproutsIO's innovative design was born out of a need to address the inefficiencies in the current food system. The technology behind SproutsIO was developed through extensive urban agriculture research at the MIT Media Lab. After years of development and testing with consumers and culinary professionals, SproutsIO is set for a public launch in the summer of 2018.

The SproutsIO system includes a device equipped with wavelength-tuned LED lighting, environmental sensors, and a dishwasher-safe basin. It also features a hybrid hydroculture fog misting system and is WiFi connected. The sIO seed refill, which is compostable and refilled via subscription, contains responsibly-sourced seeds and nutrients. The SproutsIOGrow App offers comprehensive software services, including flavor customization, harvest scheduling, yield calculation, and plant and system monitoring.
